Andrei Jikh Bio & Background

According to Business Insider, Andrei Jikh grew up in a family of circus performers from Russia. He moved to the United States at the age of 9 when his father got a job with Cirque du Soleil. Jikh’s passion for personal finance was triggered by his parents’ “crazy debt”.

Jikh’s personal website states that prior to his YouTube career, he has been featured in a number of online, TV, and film publications, including Nat Geo’s Brain Games (in 2014), NBC, GoPro, and Steve Harvey.

His [Jikh’s] big break came in 2013 taking the role as lead Cardistry Consultant in Jon Chu’s “Now You See Me 2” starring Jesse Eisenberg, Morgan Freeman, Mark Ruffalo, Daniel Radcliffe, Woody Harrelson, Lizzy Caplan, and Dave Franco, spending two months in London helping the cast prepare and train for their role as the four horsemen and inspiring the popular card throwing scene in the film.

In his interview with Business Insider, Jikh said:

At the time [while serving as a cardistry consultant for “Now You See Me 2”], I was obsessed with finance too. I interviewed everybody I worked with on what they did with money and what you are supposed to do. My life was split into three different parts, cinematography, filmmaking, and storytelling, which was my role at the company. Alongside that, I was also obsessed with finance, cardistry, and magic.

In late 2018, having saved up about $200,000 and having gathered knowledge of money management, Andrei Jikh decided to quit his day job and start making personal finance videos for YouTube. He uploaded his first video in January 2019.

I was saving half of my income, living below my means. That’s what I did for five years or so just so I could take a chance on YouTube.

At first, Jikh struggled, making no money at all during his first four months on the platform. After that, things began to come together though, and by the end of his first year he had attracted over 300,000 subscribers and earned over $100,000 from YouTube ads showing on his channel.
